Anne Schaller, a native of Louisville, KY., who lives in Northfield VT., has been painting and teaching for over 40 years. She has taught at Ball State University and Norwich University. With Kandinsky as her mentor and the elemental as her playing field, her primary desire and personal challenge as an artist has always been to realize a spiritual content or response in painting. The other predominant theme has been the exploration of a complete and abiding fascination with color. For the last 10 years, Schaller has augmented her color studies by making mosaics from tiles, blown glass and broken china.

Earth Changes Paintings

"I have been working on these paintings a long time; bringing them together, reaching their completion in 2012. They also serve to inform my current work, and I have loved them like children. Their presence has graced my home, especially having "The Pilgrimage," a large 4x5 foot visual porthole depicting a journey from interior space to vast landscape. They are a group born of the silence at the end of a town road in Vermont. The message of the six narrative paintings in the "Healing the Earth and Thus Ourselves" series is to "Walk in Balance on the Earth." Now is the time of Earth changes. The old seasonal patterns are changing and so are we. Inspired by Sun Bear and his medicine tribe, the paintings depict and predict my stream of consciousness concerning the Earth Mother. It's a feminine thing."
